How to get to Connecticut's Old State House

DRIVING IN:
Connecticut’s Old State House will validate parking tickets from the State Street South Parking Garage (formerly the Constitution Plaza garage). The cost, after validating, is $5.  The ticket will be stamped once admission is paid at the museum.  The validation is good all day.

The garage hours are 6:00 am – 1:00 am on weekdays, 9:00 am – 1:00 am on Saturdays and 9:00 am – 6:00 pm on Sundays.

Directions to the Constitution Plaza Garage, 109 Constitution Plaza, Hartford

84 East
Exit 54, Downtown Hartford
Merge onto Rt 2W, Founders Bridge.

Go straight at the end of Founders Bridge, becomes State Street.

Exit 50, Main Street
Take a right at the third light onto Market Street.

Take second left onto Kinsley Street.

Constitution Plaza South Garage on right.

Constitution Plaza North Garage on left.
I-91 North
Exit 31,State Street.

At the light, go straight onto State Street.

Exit 29A Capitol Area /Convention Center
Take the first right exit.

At the light, take a right onto Columbus Blvd.

Follow Columbus Blvd to the end.

At the light, take a left onto State Street.

Walking Directions to Connecticut's Old State House from Constitution Plaza:
(Less than 5 minutes...)

Head South on Columbus Boulevard/
                Constitution Plaza toward the Connecticut Science Center
Turn Right on State Street; the Old State House will be directly ahead
Follow State House Square -or- Central Row to the Entrances
(proceed to the rear of the building for wheelchair accessibility)

GOING GREEN:
The Star Shuttle: The shuttle has stops throughout downtown Hartford and is FREE. It operates every 12 minutes, The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am – 11:00 pm and Saturday from 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm. The closest stops on the Star Shuttle are at the Wadsworth Atheneum (Take a right on Main Street and walk down one block) or Church and Main (talk a right down Main Street and walk two blocks). Car pool and take advantage of the high-vehicle occupancy (HOV) lanes: I-91 (north of Hartford) has a HOV lane in each direction, and so does I-84 (east of Hartford).

CTTRANSIT bus service: There are many bus stops in the area of Main Street & Central Row. The bus fares are $1.25 per adult and $1.00 per child, exact change required. More Information on CTTRANSIT

Commuter Bus Park & Ride: Park your car in your hometown lot for free and board a bus headed to downtown Hartford. Commuter buses are only available at certain times during the week. More Information on CTTRANSIT

Amtrak train: Park your car for free at the Connecticut train stations in Windsor, Windsor Locks, or Berlin and then ride the rails into Hartford. More Information on Amtrak

WALKING AROUND HARTFORD:
Connecticut’s Old State House is centrally located in downtown Hartford and other local attractions are easily accessible by foot.

Connecticut Science Center (5 minutes): The walk between these two attractions is very easy. Take a left out of the front lawn and head down Central Row. Walk straight until the second light, turn right and follow Columbus Boulevard until you reach the Science Center. The walk should take about five minutes

Wadsworth Atheneum (2 minutes): These two museums are only one block away from each other! Take a left out of the back entrance at the Old State House and head down Main Street. After crossing the Gold Street, the Atheneum is located on your left. Gold Street (across from the Wadsworth Atheneum) is also where the Star Shuttle makes one of its stops near the Old State House.

Butler-McCook House and Garden (7 minutes): This historic building is located just down the street from the Wadsworth Atheneum. To get there, continue down Main Street and pass the Public Library and City Hall. The Butler-McCook House and Garden will be on your left.

OTHER PARKING FACTS ABOUT HARTFORD:
Hartford DOES have ample parking, and there are a number of lots near Connecticut’s Old State House.

We will validate parking tickets from the State Street South Parking Garage. The cost to park after validating the ticket is $5.00.

Even if you park in another lot, the average cost for 3-5 hours is only $8.00-$14.00 with daily parking rates averaging $19.50. Compare that number to $33.00 in Boston and $40.00 in Manhattan!

Metered parking is also available throughout the city.
